Good afternoon everyone,
We have reached the end of Lent and are about to enter into the joyous and hopeful 50 days which marks Easter. Easter begins with the great sadness of Good Friday but this sadness is quickly replaced by joy as we come to Easter Sunday and celebrate the risen Christ.
In class we have talked many times about the humongous significance of the ressurection of Jesus and what this means to us. We have discussed how Jesus was able to conquer death and bring us closer to God again by ‘opening the gates to heaven’ which had been long closed since Adam and Eve. Jesus gave us all the gift of eternal life and there is no greater gift we can receive.
Please take the time to experience the amazing joy that Easter brings. In our liturgy on Wednesday, Father told us of St Augustin who said “when we sing, we pray twice.” This is something we can all do!
English - This week we have begun our new unit on the Bog Baby. We made predictions about the story and drew and described the Bog Baby based upon its description.
Maths - In Maths we looked at division as sharing but also as grouping. We were introduced to the concept of remainders and how we represent this. We also solved division word problems.
Science - This week we completed assessment on our habitats unit.
RE - In RE, we learned about the role and jobs of the Priest in church and why he is so important. We also retold the story of the Last Supper.
Geography - In Geography we explored specific human features found on an island and why they were there. We also used map keys to place these features on an island of our own, justifying the reasons for putting them where we did.
PE - Our Wednesday PE saw us finish our batting and fielding unit.
Computing - We finished typing up our science reports.
Please continue to practise counting in 2s, 3s, 5s and 10s.
Please practise the year 1 and year 2 common exception words sent home before half term. The children need to be able to read and write (spelling correctly) each one of these by the end of year 2.
There is no formal homework this week as it is the half term. However, we have not yet done our spelling test so please feel free to continue practising these for a test when we return.
Golden Award - Elsimae - for a wonderful attitude towards learning.
Writing Award - Antonia - for beautiful presentation.
Maths Award - Fionn - for consistent hard work in Maths.
Year 2 PE lessons will take place on Wednesday and Friday. Please come to school in PE kit on these days.
Water bottles - all the children were given a new school bottle. This will come home each night to be cleaned and re-filled. Please only use the school bottles and ensure your child brings theirs each day. Lost water bottles can be replaced at the school office, but I am afraid you will have to pay for those. Year 2 have green tops.
I will not be in class on a Thursday afternoon, as it is my release time. This will be covered by Mrs Bowdell and Miss Andrew and is also when the children will have Music with Mrs Watson.
Party Invitations - I am afraid that Mrs Bowdell and I will not be able to give out party invitations in class. Please do not send your child into class with them for them to give out - it creates upset and fuss about something that takes place outside of school.Thank-you for your understanding with this matter.
Key Rings - please do not put key rings onto your child’s school bag, it creates fuss in class and then upset if they are lost.
School bags - please continue to use the red book bag that your child was given in Reception, we don’t not have the room to store large bags. Many thanks for your help with this matter.
