YOUNG SEASIDERS EXHIBITION…

I am delighted to announce that Our Lady’s are taking part in the Young Seasiders Blackpool Art Competition! Each teacher was asked to put forward two pieces of work from their class into the exhibition which will take place at Blackpool and the Fylde College from 4-28th March. From others pieces of work one KS1 and one KS2 winner which chosen. In Year 3 Josiah and Sofia’s work was selected to be in the exhibition! In RE, we have been thought about ways in which Christians understand and live out the messages of Jesus’ miracles and how these actions can bring them closer to God.

In English, we have been writing our own story setting narratives, thinking about how we can use a range of adjectives, verbs, adverbs and prepositions to create interest in our writing.

In Maths we have continued our topic on length and measurement. This week we have been converting units of measures in mm, cm and m, making comparisons using the greater than, less than and equal signs.

Jubilee 2025; Pilgrims of Hope

In RE, we have continued our topic ‘Galilee to Jerusalem.’ This week we have explored the ways in which Jesus told Parables as a meaningful way to explain the Kingdom of God. We have focussed on ‘The Parable of the Sower’, the children enjoyed using some active approaches to understand the story further.

In English, we have been continuing to develop understanding of our new class text ‘Rhythm of the Rain’, We have been researching a range of vocabulary from the text and we have been explaining the effect of description on the reader.

In Maths we have continued to explore multiplication and division. This week we have been dividing 1-digit numbers by 2-digit numbers, including calculations involving remainders.

In English, we have been exploring word choices within our writing, using dictionaries to understand the meanings of adventurous vocabulary. We have also started our new class text ‘Rhythm of the Rain’, making predictions based on illustrations from the story.

In Maths we have been using known number facts to solve a range of multiplication and division calculations, We have also been working hard to use the ‘greater than’ less than’ and ‘equal’ signs to make comparisons between the values of the total answers

In Science, we have started our new topic ‘Light and Shadows’. This week we thought about the difference between objects that are a source of light and those that are not.

Our learning this week…

In RE, we have been continuing our topic ‘Prophecy and Promise’. This week we have explored the meaning of the Advent candles, considering the themes of hope, peace, joy and love. The children enjoyed reflecting on ways we can ‘live out’ these qualities during Advent, and then wrote their own Advent promises.

In English we have been busy writing our own fables, following our story mountain plans and including a range of vocabulary, to develop use of detail and description.

In Maths we have been consolidating our knowledge of multiplication and division, We have been using multiplication and division grids and we have also focused on strategies to support finding remainders in division.

In History, we have been continuing our topic on ‘The Stone Age’. This week we have been considering the differences and similarities between Stone Age, Bronze Age and Iron Age with a particular focus on Houses and farming.

Children are invited to wear their own clothes for the day, and this can include Christmas jumpers, dresses or accessories if they would like - but please don't buy anything especially. We would like to support Save The Children with the Christmas jumper day, and will add a voluntary contribution of £1 to Parentpay for donations to this charity nearer the time.

🗓 Thursday 19th December @ 2.00pm - KS2 Advent Service in Church.

Parents are invited to celebrate the KS2 Advent Service over at Our Lady’s Church in the afternoon of the 19th December. We will be singing some Christmas carols as we tell the story of the Nativity. We do hope you can make it.

This week we have explored the story of The Annunciation, considering how this event was the fulfillment of the prophecy made be Isaiah in the Old Testament. The children were able to reflect on the strength of Mary’s faith and trust in God.

In English we have started to plan our own fables based on our class texts ‘Fox’ and ‘Bear’. The children were encouraged to use a ‘story mountain’ to structure their stories and we developed our use of character description.

In Maths we have been consolidating our knowledge of multiplication and division, in solving a variety of real life word problems. We have also been using estimating and checking strategies to ensure answers are accurate.

In History, we have been continuing our topic on ‘The Stone Age’. This week we have been considering the differences and similarities between stone age and bronze age, with a particular focus on gathering and hunting food.

Our learning this week…

In RE, we have begun our new topic ‘Prophecy and Promise’. This week we have explored the importance of Sunday for Christians, as a Holy day and we developed our understanding of some key Gospel quotes, considering how these words might bring comfort and inspiration.

In English we have been exploring the use of past and perfect present tense within our class text ‘Fox’. We have also been creating our own poetry based on the main characters of the story, Fox and Magpie. The children worked hard to use a range of adjectives and verbs to add interest to their writing.

In Maths we have been consolidating our knowledge of addition and subtraction in solving a variety of real life word problems. We have also been using estimating and checking strategies to ensure answers are accurate.

In History, we have been continuing our topic on ‘The Stone Age’. This week we have been exploring a range of artefacts found in an ancient burial site. We thought carefully about what the artefact might tell us about the lives of people in Stone Age Britain.

In Science, we have been completing our investigation to find out if people with longer femurs are able to jump further. The children were able to use their recorded results to draw their own conclusions. We have also been researching different types of ‘Animal Diets’ including, Herbivores, Carnivores and Omnivores.

Wild Animals – VR Experience! Supporting Science at Our Lady’s Monday 18th NOVEMBER

We will welcome into school a Wild Animals VR workshop from Education Group to work with Year 1, 2 and 3. (Each of these classes is learning about Animals this term, including Humans, so is fits beautifully with our curriculum.) We are really excited to bring to life our Science work with such a wonderful experience for the children. We are keen to bring as many learning opportunities as possible to Our Lady’s to widen the children’s knowledge, deepen their understanding and bring the world of learning to life in a way that will excite and engage them. To support us with this we are asking for a voluntary contribution of £3 per child from parents. If you are able to contribute, please go to your Parent Pay account where this donation will be added. Many thanks for your support. (The rest of the cost of the visit will be met by school.

Lest we forget

Every year the country comes together for Remembrance Sunday.

A period of silence is held at 11am to remember the people who have died in wars around the world.

Remembrance Day - is on Monday this year - and marks the day World War One ended, at 11am on the 11th day of the 11th month, in 1918.

Remembrance Sunday is also marked each year, and falls on the second Sunday in November.

The royal family will lay wreaths at the Cenotaph and the UK will have a moment of silence at 11 o'clock on Remembrance Sunday as part of the commemorations.

In School, we will be commemorating Remembrance Day with class prayer and liturgy. We will also come together in the school hall to hold a minutes silence, and to share a visual reflection of our poppies.

Our learning this week…

In RE, we have been continuing to develop our understanding within the topic ‘Creation and Covenant’. This week we have explored the canticle of St Francis, considering the wonder and awe of God’s creation.

In English we have begun our new topic based on fables. We have read and explored our main class text ‘Fox’ considering the actions of the characters, particularly using the words ‘betrayal’ and ‘loyalty’. The children have also worked hard to use dictionaries to find definitions for new words within the text.

In Maths we have been exploring addition and subtraction of 3-digit numbers. We have been continuing to build our understanding in using the column method and the children are showing increasing confidence in making exchanges into the tens and hundreds columns.

In History, we have started our new topic on ‘Stone Age Britain’. This week we investigated the settlement of Skara Brae, considering clues we can learn about the ways Stone Age people would have lived.

In Science, we have been completing our investigation to discover whether the length of femur bones effects the length of jump. The children were able to use measuring tapes and we discussed the importance of a fair test.

Wild Animals – VR Experience! Supporting Science at Our Lady’s MONDAY 18th NOVEMBER

We will welcome into school a Wild Animals VR workshop from Education Group to work with Year 1, 2 and 3. Wednesday Word

Our learning this week…

In RE, we have been continuing to develop our understanding within the topic ‘Creation and Covenant’. This week we have explored the ways in which we can care and look after God’s World.

In English the children have been continuing to plan and write their own narratives based on ‘The Iron Man’. We have been focusing on using correct punctuation and we have started to organise our writing into paragraphs.

In Maths we have been exploring dividing and multiplying by 3. The children worked hard using counters to represent calculations, we then used our understanding to apply this knowledge to working out answers to some word problems.

In Geography the children completed research on Paris, discovering key landmarks of the capital city of France.

In Science, we have been labelling the human skeleton and we have been growing our understanding about the role our bones have in protecting organs, allowing movement and giving our bodies structure.

Wild Animals – VR Experience! Supporting Science at Our Lady’s TUESDAY 26th NOVEMBER

We will welcome into school a Wild Animals VR workshop from Education Group to work with Year 1, 2 and 3. (Each of these classes is learning about Animals this term, including Humans, so is fits beautifully with our curriculum.) We are really excited to bring to life our Science work with such a wonderful experience for the children. We are keen to bring as many learning opportunities as possible to Our Lady’s to widen the children’s knowledge, deepen their understanding and bring the world of learning to life in a way that will excite and engage them. To support us with this we are asking for a voluntary contribution of £3 per child from parents. If you are able to contribute, please go to your Parent Pay account where this donation will be added. Many thanks for your support. (The rest of the cost of the visit will be met by school.

Our learning this week…

In English the children have been using a range of conjunctions and sentence starters to produce their own creative sentences linked to the story of ‘The Iron Man’.

In Maths we have been using addition and subtraction to solve calculations involving adding and taking away 1 or 10 from a 3-digit number. We have explored calculations which involve making exchanges.

In Geography the children investigated the capital cities of the countries of Europe, using maps and atlas’ to locate .

In Science, we have thought about the differences between exoskeletons, endoskeletons and hydrostatic skeletons, exploring some of the key advantages and disadvantages of each type of skeleton.

In RE, we have been continuing to develop our understanding within the topic ‘Creation and Covenant’. This week we have explored the poetic language of the Creation Story within the Book of Genesis.

Our learning this week…

In English the children have been developing their dictionary skills, exploring a range of vocabulary from the story of The Iron Man (by Ted Hughes). We have also been using noun phrases to build up our own creative sentences linked to the events of the first chapter of the story.

In Maths we have been continuing to learn about place value in numbers up to 1000, this week we have been applying our knowledge to answer a range of word problems involving counting in steps of 100 and 50.

In Geography the children explored the features of a variety of European countries, considering different currencies, governments and flags.

In Science, we have thought about the differences between vertebrates and invertebrates. The children were able to sort animals into the two different categories.

In RE, we have been continuing to develop our understanding within the topic ‘Creation and Covenant’. This week we have explored how we are all called to grow spiritually, using the ‘Fruits of the Spirit’ as our guide.

Our learning this week…

In English the children have continued to explore the story of The Iron Man, this week we have been considering the effect of vocabulary within the text on the reader.

In Maths we have been continuing to learn about place value in numbers up to 1000, the children were working to add and subtract 1, 10 and 100 to 3-digit numbers. Well done everyone!

In Geography the children used an atlas to locate some countries within Europe, using this to complete their own maps of the continent of Europe.

In Science, we have been using food labels to investigate the amounts of nutrients within food and to consider the traffic light system of food labelling to help support a healthy balanced diet.

Welcome to Year 3!

I would like to begin by saying a massive well done to all the children in Year 3 this week, they have settled in well to being upstairs in their new classroom and it has been a pleasure getting to know them.

Our learning this week…

In English the children have started to explore the story of The Iron Man, they were able to develop their use of vocabulary to describe the story setting.

In Maths we have learnt started to learn about place value in numbers up to 1000, the children were able to use base 10 equipment to support their understanding.

In Geography the children began their new topic by researching facts about Europe and recapping the location of the seven world continents.

In Science, we started our new topic all about animals including humans. This week we explored the key features of a balanced diet.

The children will be coming home with their spellings and homework on Monday 9th September , this needs to be returned by the following Monday. So the first spellings and times tables tests will be on Monday 16th September.

What a busy last week of term! We have had an amazing time, celebrating talents, practicing public speaking skills, reflecting on the year and enjoying the lovely weather!

We have been extremely busy with our learning in Year 3 this week. Here’s what we have been up to…

Thursday was Our Lady’s Got Talent. So many children shared so many talents. From Year 3 we had:

Layla - Tap dancing

Amara - Playing piano

Erin - Dancing

Luna - Gymnastics

Matilda and Priya - Gymnastics

Penny - Dancing

Macie- Drumming

Ava - Singing and acting

Jessie - Singing and dancing.

We also had Year 3’s Got Talent today, for those who’s talents are less suited to the hall:

Penny, speaking about her eyes.

Noah, Elsie, Artie, Macie, Archer, James, Priya, Sienna, Austin and Frazer - Showing their football skills.

Erin - Telling jokes

Alistair - showing his skills with the devil sticks.

Matilda, Willow, Priya, Luna and Annie - Cheer.

Jessie - Acro moves

I know there’s even more people with craft, art or other talents that are more difficult to show at events like this. They are all part of what makes us, us!

We also had our moving up day, as it wasn’t meeting a new teacher, the children shared the more unusual facts about themselves!

In English, we have been practicing speaking and listening, culminating in the children doing a short presentation about a topic that interests them. Excellent speaking and listening from everyone!

In Maths, we have revised our skills in using the four operations: addition, subtraction, division and multiplication.

The theme of the final daily prayers for this school year is thankfulness, with a focus on looking back at the good things we’ve been part of during the year. Children will spend time in a posture of gratitude to God and respond in prayer to the good things ‘He has showered on us’ (Ephesians 1:8).

We have been extremely busy with our learning in Year 3 this week. Here’s what we have been up to…

On Wednesday, we watch Year 6’s end of day performance. Year 3 were so respectful and a wonderful example of how to watch and enjoy a show!

Today is the PTFA’s Summer Fair, I do hope you have all had a lovely time!

In English, we have finished our “Into The Forest” unit and have spent the end of the week revising spelling rules and practising speaking and listening skills.

In Maths, have continued our mass unit, measuring, comparing, adding and subtracting mass and solving problems with mass.

In PE, we have played games using our cricket skills.

In Science we have investigated shadows and completed a comparative fair test to work out how the angle of a light affects the length of the shadow.

In English, we have completing our lost narrative, there have been so many different ways that children have written about getting lost in the woods. I’ve loved seeing your creativity and writing skills shine

In Maths, have continued our shape unit, looking at 2D and 3D shapes.

In PE, we have been practicing for sports day.

In Geography we have looked at how volcanoes form and what the different parts of a volcano are.

In Science we have investigated shadows and completed a comparative fair test to work out how dark shadows were.

We have been extremely busy with our learning in Year 3 this week. Here’s what we have been up to…

In English, the children have completely an independent write where a character gets lost and then reunited. I have loved seeing their creativity and writing skills blooming!

In Maths, we have started our new topic, mass. We’ve measured the mass of things practically in kilograms and grams and completed some calculations using grams and kilograms.

In PE, we have been developing cricket skills.

In RE, we investigated how Jewish people in Britain celebrate Passover and why they celebrate it.

In Music, we sang Three Little Birds and listened to some 15th century music.

In E-Safety, we talked about how the internet can make us feel and what to do when it goes wrong. The children had very good ideas about this, I am sure they do put these ideas into practice.

In Spanish, we have learned the names of family members.
