Happy New Year!
Welcome back and Happy New Year to you all! I do hope you all managed to have a wonderful Christmas and New Year…let’s make 2025 the best year yet!
This week has been a joy getting to know my class and I hope they have enjoyed getting to know a bit more about me. This class have demonstrated what hard workers they are I am ending the week feeling very hopeful. Mrs Ormerod and Mrs Owen have done a wonderful job so far and I look forward to joining the class on the remainder of their learning journey in Year 6!
This Monday 6th January, marked the Feast of the Epiphany. The Solemnity of the Epiphany celebrates the arrival of the Magi — also known as the Three Wise Men or Three Kings — who came with gifts to worship the Child Jesus shortly after his birth. They travelled afar in acknowledgement that Jesus was a true King and Saviour. We celebrated this feast with a whole school mass yesterday.
In our RE lesson this week, we also offered up three gifts to Christ. We reflected on what gifts we would like to give to Jesus to show Him that we too believe that he is our King and Saviour. We then explained our choices of gifts, using Jesus teachings from the bible to support this. It was so lovely to see gifts such as charity, tolerance, courage and forgiveness being offered to Christ.
Here is what else we have been up to….
In Maths we started the week revising multiplying and dividing numbers by 10, 100, 1000 and multiples of 10,100 and 1000. We ended the week focusing on fraction and decimal equivalents.
In English we started our new unit: ‘Classic Fiction’. We started the unit by discussing the question, ‘Can modern literature be classed as Classic Fiction?’; the class were quite divided with their opinions on this! After a class debate, the children then wrote a balanced argument. We have also been exploring some archaic language from the opening of the Classic novel ‘The Wizard of Oz’.
In HRSE we have been looking at online safety . We have focused on sharing information online and when it is safe to and when it is not. Always remember, Take care when you share. If in doubt, speak out!
In Geography we have been idenifiying countires, cities and seas of the UK. We labelled a blank map with as much information as we could, using an atlas to help us. We then used the laptops to further research some kep facts and figures about the UK.
