Good afternoon everyone,
This Friday we began our school’s Holy Week worship with our Palm Sunday Liturgy. Palm Sunday is actually on Sunday 13th April this year but we will not be in school by this time.
Thank you to you all for helping the children to learn their lines. We hope you enjoyed the wonderful celebration of Jesus the King!
English - We continued our work on Grandad’s Island. We looked at key vocabulary, using thesauruses to help us to find synoynms. We also looked at the intention behind some of the writer’s sentence choices and used inference skills to consider what he might have meant. We also undertook some SATs-style comprehension work on the book.
Maths - In Maths we have completed our end of unit assessment on divison, multiplication and money. Money seems to be the area where we still struggle most so please keep practicing at home! We also began our work on fractions by looking at parts and whole, equal and unequal parts and what makes a half a half.
Science - We completed our end of unit assessment on living things and their habitats.
RE - In RE, we learned about the words Jesus said whilst on the cross and what these show us about God’s forgiveness.
History - We used the knowledge we have gained to place events on a timeline accurately.
PE - Our Wednesday PE focused on striking a ball for distance and fielding. We had no Friday PE due to Palm Liturgy in church.
Computing - We began our unit on coding, using Scratch Jr.
Please continue to practise counting in 2s, 3s, 5s and 10s. Please continue to use TTRockstars to practise times tables.
Please practise the year 1 and year 2 common exception words sent home before half term. The children need to be able to read and write (spelling correctly) each one of these by the end of year 2.
Times Table Test
This week I have set the 4 times table. Please, please do try and practise this as it will make our fractions work on finding quarters so much easier!
Maths
Recognising a half worksheet.
Reading

Year 2 PE lessons will take place on Wednesday and Friday. Please come to school in PE kit on these days.
Water bottles - all the children were given a new school bottle. This will come home each night to be cleaned and re-filled. Please only use the school bottles and ensure your child brings theirs each day. Lost water bottles can be replaced at the school office, but I am afraid you will have to pay for those. Year 2 have green tops.
I will not be in class on a Thursday afternoon, as it is my release time. This will be covered by Mrs Bowdell and Miss Andrew and is also when the children will have Music with Mrs Watson.
Party Invitations - I am afraid that Mrs Bowdell and I will not be able to give out party invitations in class. Please do not send your child into class with them for them to give out - it creates upset and fuss about something that takes place outside of school.Thank-you for your understanding with this matter.
Key Rings - please do not put key rings onto your child’s school bag, it creates fuss in class and then upset if they are lost.
School bags - please continue to use the red book bag that your child was given in Reception, we don’t not have the room to store large bags. Many thanks for your help with this matter.
Monday 7th April - Any Easter bonnets for the parade must be brought into school.
Friday 11th April - school finishes at normal time for the Easter Break. We return to school on TUESDAY 22nd April.
Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic Primary School Run to Rome
Sponsored Event for Cafod
As a school we are together going to run the distance from our school to The Vatican in Rome. We will be doing this by running laps around our field. Together we will run a distance of 2180km.
Our running club have launched the event by running 122 laps and they have pledged to run 1000 more laps.
Each class has been given a target number of laps to run before Friday 25th April when we will celebrate reaching our total and will be sending Miss Heim Sarac off on her London Marathon Event!! Miss Heim- Sarac is running for Cafod. Please support us by sponsoring the run.
We would ask parents to collect sponsorship from friends and family and then pay the total amount through your child’s parentpay account. This event will be added to parentpay account ‘Run to Rome for Cafod’ in order for proceeds to be sent directly to Cafod as we are now a cashless school. Please can all sponsorship forms be returned by Tuesday 22nd April 2025.

At Our Lady's we like to support our parents/carers in Online Safety matters.
Keeping children and young people safe online is one of the biggest challenges facing society today and it is all of our responsibility to ensure that children are educated to make positive, informed choices when they are online.
This month’s online safety guide gives helpful advice about…
What Parents & Educators Need to Know about Instagram. This free guide breaks down the latest risks on Instagram, including AI chatbots, scheduled messaging, and Threads. It offers practical tips for helping children stay safe on the app.
We hope you find these guides informative and helpful in promoting the positive use of technology to make the online world a better and safer place for us all. Thank you.
Have a lovely weekend,
