Staying Safe Online

Here are some online safety guides for parents, particularly focussing on Roblox and Minecraft. I’ve also included online safety information about Snapchat and TikTok.

Please make sure your child understands that they are not in trouble and that by letting you or another trusted adult know if there is a problem or concern, we can all work to make sure they are kept safe.

We had a lovely end to the week with Sports day. Thank you to all of you who were able to come and support the children in their races, I know the children enjoyed having you all there to cheer them on.
I am so proud of all of Year 3.

We have been extremely busy with our learning in Year 3 this week. Here’s what we have been up to…

We finished our shadow boxes on Monday, I love the end results and I hope you do too! Here are all the photos I took of the finished products.

In English, we have completing our lost narrative, there have been so many different ways that children have written about getting lost in the woods. I’ve loved seeing your creativity and writing skills shine

In Maths, have continued our shape unit, looking at 2D and 3D shapes.

In PE, we have been practicing for sports day.

In Geography we have looked at how volcanoes form and what the different parts of a volcano are.

In Science we have investigated shadows and completed a comparative fair test to work out how dark shadows were.

We have been extremely busy with our learning in Year 3 this week. Here’s what we have been up to…

In English, the children have completely an independent write where a character gets lost and then reunited. I have loved seeing their creativity and writing skills blooming!

In Maths, we have started our new topic, mass. We’ve measured the mass of things practically in kilograms and grams and completed some calculations using grams and kilograms.

In PE, we have been developing cricket skills.

In RE, we investigated how Jewish people in Britain celebrate Passover and why they celebrate it.

In Music, we sang Three Little Birds and listened to some 15th century music.

In E-Safety, we talked about how the internet can make us feel and what to do when it goes wrong. The children had very good ideas about this, I am sure they do put these ideas into practice.

In Spanish, we have learned the names of family members.

The following safety guides give some great advice about keeping your children safe online, please take the time to read them, check your child’s device settings and discuss them with your child so they know what to do if something happens and they don’t feel safe when using them.

In English, we have started our new book, Into the Forest. We have been working hard on developing our writing skills.

In Maths, we have started our new topic: Angles and Properties of Shape. We have been finding right angles in shapes today.

In Science, we started our new topic light. Investigating the difference between light and dark.

In Geography, we started our new topic: Volcanoes! Lots of children had lots of prior knowledge about this, from Pompeii to all sorts of facts!

In PE, we started fielding and batting games.

In RE, we have been exploring the Exodus.

Pentecost (Copy)

This week, the Gospel gives us assurance that when we pray in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit, God hears us. Children’s prayers will centre on Jesus’ divine promise - to be with us. This requires that we remember Him and listen to Him.

It is the end of a very busy half term! I hope you all get chance to rest before the beginning of the next half term.

In Maths, we continued the time topic. The “Battle of the bands” ended, with Marton winning! Well done! There will be another competition in the new term, but there will be a daily 5 minute limit.

In Science, we observed how the plants are growing in different conditions, dyed daisies red and sorted seeds by how they are distributed.

In History, we evaluated whether Alfred the Great should have the title “Great” and gave reasons for our decisions.

In PE, we continued the Athletics module, running, jumping and throwing.

In RE, we have been considering the Mystery of the Holy Trinity and trying to describe the belief in it. .

We have finished our 2D collage unit, it was very difficult to choose which pieces to put up as display. I had to shuffle them together and pick at random!

Pentecost

We have celebrated Pentecost today, it was lovely to see so many children wearing bright colours. Father Frank led a lovely, joyful Pentecost liturgy and then we had an extended playtime with the whole school.

This week we’re celebrating Pentecost! After going up to Heaven, Jesus sent His Holy Spirit to the disciples and all who believed.

We have been extremely busy with our learning in Year 3 this week. Here’s what we have been up to…

In English, the children have finished writing their first Egyptian mystery story and moved onto writing one more independently.

In Maths, the children have continued their fraction work.

In History, we have looked at what we can infer about Anglo Saxons from the finds at Sutton Hoo.

In PE, we have started the athletics unit, both jumping and throwing skills. We also danced on Thursday due to the inclement weather

In RE, we have been thinking about the Pentecost, what happened and how we could be good apostles. We also had our class mass, where Fr Frank invited us up to join him as apostles.

In art, we created our collages.

We have been extremely busy with our learning in Year 3 this week. Here’s what we have been up to…

In English, the children have begun writing their Egyptian Mystery story.

In Maths, the children have continued their fraction work.

In History, we have looked at what Anglo Saxon settlements looked like and had a brief look at Anglo Saxon villages.

In Science, we have started out plant topic, we used microscopes to observe roots. We also identified various weeds. This would be a lovely thing together, if you visit a park or outdoor space.

In PE, we have started the athletics unit, both jumping and throwing skills. We also danced on Thursday due to the inclement weather

In RE, we have reached the Ascension. We thought about the mission that Jesus gave to the apostles.

In Music, we continued our disco unit. Year 3 wowed me with their glockenspiel skills!

In art, we painted paper to use as material for a collage.

Eastertide

I hope you all had a happy and holy Easter. It was so lovely to be back and ready for our learning.

We have been extremely busy with our learning in Year 3 this week. Here’s what we have been up to…

In English, the children have been investigating vocabulary and writing with a sense of discovery and the unknown. We will be writing an Egyptian Mystery soon

In Maths, the children have been working on fractions, both using fractions as numbers and finding fractions of a set of objects.

We have begun our new History topic - the Anglo-Saxons, finding out about where they came from, why they invaded and how we can tell where they settled by investigating place names.

In PE, we have started the athletics unit, both jumping and throwing skills.

In RE, the children have been learning how the disciples did not recognise Jesus on the road to Emmaus and what caused the disciples to recognise Jesus and why.

In Music we had a great time learning to sing to a disco song “Bringing Us Together”

He is Risen!

Wishing you all a Happy Easter.

He is Risen: The Resurrection in Matthew 28

The resurrection of Jesus Christ is the foundation of the Christian faith. Without the resurrection, the belief in God's saving grace and mercy through Jesus is void. When Jesus rose from the dead, he proved his divinity as the Son of God and his works of atonement, redemption, reconciliation, and salvation. The resurrection was a real, physical raising of Jesus’ body from the dead.

We have had a wonderful week. We started the week by sharing our class liturgy. Everyone performed beautifully, Fr Frank said how pleased he was to be able to hear and understand every word spoken.

We have been extremely busy with our learning in Year 3 this week. Here’s what we have been up to…

In English, the children have written letters as Jemmy Button and drawn cartoon strips inspired by our class novel Giant. We also voted for the order of our next two class reads: The Explorer and The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe.

In Maths, the children have been working on fractions, focussing on tenths.

DT this week has been particularly challenging! The children have been constructing castles from paper and card, folding nets to create 3D shapes. I am so pleased with the effort that they put in and their resilience when completing challenging work! I know some of the castles got a little damaged by the wind, so here are the pictures from after they were completed.

In HRSE, the children have been thinking about ways to keep safe online.

In PE, the children have been working on fielding skills and dancing.

Journey with Jesus through Holy Week

This week we invite children to journey with Jesus through Holy Week. By focusing on the events of the last week of Jesus’ life on Earth children will listen and relate each Scripture to their lives. Children will be invited to meet the loving presence of Jesus as they walk the road to the Cross in prayer, and to continue walking close to Him always.

What a busy week we have had!

Thank you to everyone who attended our open afternoon. It was lovely to get to meet so many of you and to talk about how your children are getting on in Year 3.

On Thursday morning, we had our class mass with Year 6. Then, in the afternoon, we had our Lenten Reflections with Fr Frank. Thank you for joining us. It was a beautiful, reflective time, to see the church illuminated by a single candle. I hope the children have been keeping up with the challenge Fr Frank set them.

We have also been practicing for our class liturgy to share with the rest of the school on Monday.

The prayer time this week invites children to remember that they belong to God and He loves them.

Tuesday 19th March - Open afternoon

I am so excited to welcome you to Year 3 between 2 and 4pm on Tuesday. All parents are invited to join us in class on this day anytime after 2pm to 4pm to see what we do in class, talk to your child about their work, as all their books will be out and talk to their teachers about their learning and have a look round our class. We hope you can join us!

Please enter through the main school entrance and you will be directed upstairs.

Once you have finished, you may take your child home.

Thursday 21st March - please join us IN CHURCH for a Lent Reflection for Year 3 lead by Fr.Frank at 2.40pm. We would like as many parents, carers, grandparents as possible to join us for this special liturgy.

ON THIS DAY ALL CHILDREN MUST TO COLLECTED FROM CHURCH. EVEN IF YOU ARE NOT ABLE TO COME TO THE SERVICE YOUR CHILD MUST BE COLLECTED FROM CHURCH. ONLY CHILDREN AT AFTER SCHOOL CLUB WILL BE BOUGHT BACK BY SCHOOL STAFF.

I loved seeing every dressed in their wonderful World Book Day outfits. We did lots of book related activities: designing book covers, joining in with a BBC Live Lesson and of course, lots of reading! Children have written their own reading lists from the selection in the classroom, some children had some pleasant surprises with books they never thought they’d enjoy.

Perfect Promise: Guidance

This week's prayers help the children to reflect on injustice and how they can play their part in putting things right by choosing God’s way.

Thursday 7th March - World Book Day. We are inviting all of the children to come to school on this day dressed as a book character and to bring their favourite book to share. (Please make sure these are clearly named with your child’s name). Please do not feel you have to spend a lot of money on a costume - it is all about the taking part and the books and we LOVE home-made costumes!!

In Maths, the children have been doing statistics, we have looked at pictograms, bar charts and tables. On Tuesday, we will be starting our new topic: length.

In English, the children have looked at Jemmy Button. They have asked questions and investigated the ways authors select vocabulary to create emotions. Next week, the children will be empathising with Jemmy Button and writing a diary entry, before starting to plan their own return narratives.

In RE, the children have learned about Jesus’ miracles and what they reveal about the identity of Jesus.

In PE, the children have started to work on fielding skills.

Feast of the Presentation of the Lord

The Feast of the Presentation of the Lord (also known as Candlemas) is today, 2.2.24. The season of Epiphany ends, we remember when Jesus was brought to the Temple by his parents. This is a day when candles are blessed in Church and taken home and lit to share the Light of the World within our homes.

We have been extremely busy with our learning in Year 3 this week. Here’s what we have been up to…

In Maths, the children have solved some really challenging multiplication and division word problems with multiple steps. This was not easy but the children were very resilient! We have now started a new maths topic, money.

In English, the children have looked at the 7 natural wonders of the world. They have written a diary entry as an explorer who has visited one of the wonders. Next week, the children will write an information leaflet about one of the natural wonders.

In RE, the children have learned about Jesus’ miracles and why he performed them, to show the power of having faith and trust in God. We also worked on our RE display in our table groups, which will be about the parable of the sower.

In Science, we learned about fossils and how they are formed.

In PE, the children have continued net and wall and handball.

Safer Internet Day takes place on Tuesday next week - 6th February. This year's theme is: ‘Inspiring change? 'Nothing is small in the eyes of God. Do all that you do with love' Saint Therese of Lisieux

As part of our RE lesson on Thursday, the children learned about St Therese of Lisieux. She is an inspiring Saint, who was determined to show others how to spread the kingdom of God. Some children then took to the hotseat and answered questions as St Therese of Lisieux. I must say, they did a wonderful job!

Here’s what else we have been up to this week…

In Maths, we have been solving problems using multiplication and division.

In English, the children have planned and written their setting narrative.

In RE, the children have listened and learned about the parable of the sower.

In Science, we have continued our investigation, looking closely at rocks. The children investigated their density, permeability, durability and decided if they were hard or soft.

In PE, the children have continued net and wall, we did speed stacking cups instead of handball due to the rain.

'The first duty of love is to listen' Paul Tillich

The children have had a great week in Year 3. On Thursday, we had the opportunity to go to Mass as a class. Father Frank allowed all of the children to come up to the altar during the Liturgy of the Eucharist, the children were fascinated to watch the blessing so close up. It was a really special moment. Father also reminded the children of the importance of listening and how this can take many forms. Not just listening with your ears!

Here’s what else we have been up to this week…

In Maths, we have been using our multiplication knowledge to have a go at expanded multiplication using the column method. This requires lots of practise, please ensure you see the homework page and support your children in having another go at this at home.

In English, we have been looking at an example text of a setting narrative inspired by the waterfalls in The Rhythm of the Rain, next week we will begin planning our own setting narratives.

In RE, the children have listened and learned about two parables that Jesus told. The parable of the hidden treasure and the parable of the pearl. They have learned about parables being told to convey a message about how we should live our lives, as God wants us to.

In Science, we have started an investigation looking closely at rocks. We will continue the investigation next week.

In PE, the children have continued their topics - handball and net and wall.
